Fungal nail

What is Fungal nail?

Fungal nail is a common infection that affects the nail plate. If left untreated it can spread to other nails and surrounding skin.  The infection causes the nail to become discoloured, fragile and cracked.

Treatment for Fungal nail

If left for a long time Fungal nail can be difficult to cure.  Treatment is always recommended as the infection will rarely go away itself.  Topical solutions can be used to help cure the infection. For more information on treatment and how I can help please get in contact.

Athletes foot

What is Athletes foot?

Athletes foot is a fungal infection of the skin. It is caused by microscopic fungi particles.  It is very common and usually found between the toes and the bottom of feet.  It can cause itching, redness, blisters, peeling skin and burning sensations.  The fungi are highly contagious and are most commonly picked up in communal areas.

Treatment for Athletes foot

There are many forms of treatment for athletes foot. These are topical and come in many forms such as powders, sprays, paints and creams and ultimately the option that will be most suited to you depends on the type of infection. If you are suffering with athletes foot get in touch with me today to find out the best course of action for treatment.

Ingrown toenail

What is an Ingrown toenail?

This is a common condition where the corner or side of a toenail grows into the skin and can usually be found on the big toe. An ingrowing toenail can cause inflammation, pain and swelling and can become infected if left untreated.

Treatment for Ingrown toenail

It is usually easily managed by removing/cutting away the section of the nail that is ingrowing. If there is an infection present, further medical treatment would be required. If you are suffering from an Ingrown toenail then please get in touch for a free telephone consultation to discuss how I can help.

Calluses

What are Calluses?

A callus in an area where the skin has become hardened and thickened. They are caused by repetitive pressure or friction and are the body's defence mechanism to protect itself and often appear on pressure spots such as the balls or heels of the feet.

Treatment for Calluses

If a callus is present but does not cause any discomfort there is no real need for treatment.  However if you are experiencing any pain or discomfort a callus can be easily managed.  It is likely to require regular appointments to par down any hardened skin. To get started on relieving the pressure caused by calluses then please get in touch with me today.

Corns

What are Corns?

Corns are small areas of skin that have a very hard center surrounded by swollen, sometimes hardened skin. These are usually caused by repeated friction and pressure on the skin and are the body's defence mechanism to that friction or pressure. As with calluses the most common cause of corns are shoes that don't fit properly.

Treatment for Corns

Often calluses can form over the tops of corns which can cause further problems.  It is best to seek professional medical care rather than trying to treat them yourself at home.  Please contact me today for a free phone consultation.

Verrucae

What are Verrucae?

Verrucae are warts that occur on the feet. They look different to warts because the pressure that is applied to them when walking compresses the wart. Verrucae are caused by a virus called the papilloma virus. The papilloma virus is usually found on floors, especially in swimming pools and communal changing or showering areas.

Treatment for Verrucae

You only really require treatment if the verrucae particularly bothers you. It can take some time to cure and not all treatments are effective for everybody.  I offer treatment initially via a product called Verrutop. It is a course of 3-4 treatments depending on the amount of verrucae present. Some clients may experience a stinging sensation during the treatment, but for most it is usually painless. In-between Verrutop treatments surgical spirit must be applied twice a day.  As with all verruca treatments this is not guaranteed to resolve the verruca and further treatment options may need to be considered however Verrutop is currently considered to be one of the best non-invasive options on the market.
